Membership

What it Means to Become a Member at Redeemer

Scripture describes the church as a spiritual family, a people God is shaping together in Christ. Membership is a way of stepping into that calling, choosing to grow in faith and community with a particular body of believers.

At Redeemer, we seek to live as a grace-formed community. We gather to worship, pray, learn from Scripture, and care for one another as God uses relationships to grow us into the likeness of Christ.

Membership roots you more deeply in this shared life. It offers the guidance of our elders, a place to affirm your faith in worship, and a meaningful role in the mission of the church. Members help shape our life together, serve in ways that matter, and walk with this community through every season.

To become a member is to move from attending to belonging, joining a people learning to follow Christ together.

The Steps Toward Membership

The Discovering Redeemer Class introduces who we are and what we believe, and offers space to ask questions about following Christ, the Presbyterian Church in America, and Redeemer Presbyterian Church.
It’s a welcoming environment to listen, learn, and discern whether Redeemer might be your church home. There is no pressure to join. This step is simply about learning and exploring.

Those who have decided they would like to pursue membership will meet with an elder and another trusted church leader. This membership conversation offers space to share your story, talk through the membership vows, and begin building relationships with church leadership.

New members reaffirm their membership vows during a Sunday worship service. This moment allows the congregation to celebrate, pray, and welcome them as part of the church family.

FAQ's

No. The Discovering Redeemer Class is simply an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and get to know our church. Attending the class does not obligate you to pursue membership.

Many people pursue membership once they sense that Redeemer is becoming their church home and they want to commit to growing in faith and community here. If you’re unsure, we’re happy to talk and help you discern next steps at your own pace.

The membership vows are a historic expression of Christian faith and commitment. They affirm trust in Christ, a desire to follow Him, and a commitment to the life and care of the church. Elders will walk through the vows with you and answer any questions before you affirm them.

Attenders are always welcome to worship and participate in the life of the church. Membership represents a deeper commitment to this community and includes affirming vows, receiving elder care and oversight, and participating more fully in the life and direction of the church.

Baptism is a sign of belonging to Christ and His Church. If you have not been baptized, or if you have questions about your baptism, our pastors or elders would be glad to talk with you and help discern next steps. This conversation can be part of the membership process.

Questions are welcome! If you’d like to talk more about membership or next steps, please reach out to our Director of Connection, Hala Matalka.
