Ministries of Mercy There are a number of "home grown" mercy ministries at Redeemer which support church members, visitors and members of the broader Winston Salem community including: Ardmore 5k - Redeemer contrived and launched an annual 5k road race for our community back in 2002. We have participated as a major organizer alongside the Twin City Track Club , the Ardmore Neighborhood Association and other community minded groups each year since. Generous sponsors provide funding for the event which is usually held in late October. The road race along with the paired Fun Run help to build community among neighbors, while benefiting a local non-profit. The participants equally benefit as members, neighbors, family and friends are encouraged in discipline and physical fitness. Visit the Ardmore5k webpage for more info and a registration form. For more info email a race director atRefugee Ministry - Redeemer has started sponsoring familys who are relocating to the United States because of political or religious persecution in their countries of origin. Find out more at Redeemer's refugee ministry blog. Jail and Prison Ministry - The primary objective of the jail and prison ministry at Redeemer is to glorify God by bringing worship and proclamation of the gospel to those incarcerated. A secondary objective is training kingdom workers to evangelize and disciple across cultural barriers. Volunteers, chaplains and staff seek to guide inmates and their families to reconciliation with each other, the community, and God. www.forsythjpm.org Contact Jamie Dean for more information on how to volunteer. Deacons Fund Help Line - The Deacon's Fund is a ministry linking church and community members with resources that can help with the payment of utility bills or rent, financial counseling, as well as helping those in need to find local overnight shelters, food banks, etc. Many recipients are employed but happen upon unexpected bills and need some help to make ends meet. Those with chronic financial needs are referred to a trained volunteer financial counselor at Redeemer, who can help them look at the big picture. Others are temporarily between jobs or are disabled. Redeemer works together with government , other churches and social service agencies in Winston-Salem prayerfully continuing to pursue people that often "fall between the cracks". Every third Sunday, there is an opportunity to give specifically to the "Deacons Fund" which is separate from the general operating fund of the church. Checks may be made out to Redeemer Presbyterian Church with Deacons' Fund written in the memo line. These donations are then distributed by the Diaconate. If you need assistance, please phone 336-724-4421 ext 27. A trained member of Redeemer's Diaconate will be glad to return your call within 48 hours, if at all possible. The processing of a request usually requires 2 days, as we try to care for the person in a holistic manner that will encourage them for the day as well as going forward. Individuals who are not members or regular attenders will need a recommendation for financial assistance from one of our community partners or church leaders.
